Ball-Jointed Dolls
Hey! So I finally got around to telling my parents about my dolls (HAR), so it's high time I got them up here on my website, don't you think? Anyway, these are my boys! They are Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls (ABJDs, or just BJDs), which are a relatively new type of collectible doll (within the past few decades) made of resin (closer to plastic than porcelain) and strung together with elastic in order to be poseable. They are named for their ball-shaped joints (bit of a duh, I know). The fun thing about BJDs is that nearly everything about them is customizable: you can change their wigs, their eyes, their face paint (or makeup, called "face-up" within the hobby), clothes, and just about anything you could dream up to do. For example, I have a friend who has a doll she modded to have six arms by drilling extra holes in his torso and stringing two sets of arms into them. I've added a new section to my links page with some popular doll sites if you're interested in more information! See pictures here!
Hatcher
Doll in Mind "Arno" - rec'd May 1, 2009
Hatcher, while not my first doll, is the doll I wanted the longest before I got him, and the oldest of the dolls I currently own (I sold my very first doll; she didn't fit in). He is absolutely adorable, sweet, and shy. For the first six months I had him, he didn't have a shirt that fit him properly, so he went around topless a lot. He has not yet forgiven me for this.
